In 1592 the very famous oil painting, The Virgin Appearing to St Luke and St Catherine, was done by Annibale Carracci. Carracci's piece can now be found in the Musée du Louvre, Paris. This painting is full of highly saturated colors with dark and heavy contrast, while still holding a realistic view of humanly figures. The two figures in the bottom darkness are intended to be viewed as reaching up to the glowing Gods. This painting is very symbolic of the time period is what painted in, very Catholic and religious. However the piece is so beautiful it holds it's own and is a very powerful piece.
